DETROIT – Ford Motor's U.S. sales jumped 10.5% last month compared with February 2023, led by increases in its hybrid and all-electric vehicles sales. The Detroit automaker Monday reported sales of 174,192 cars and trucks for February. The company said hybrid sales totaled 12,045 in February, including 6,463 units of its small Maverick Hybrid pickup. Despite the increases in hybrids and EVs, 89.5% of Ford's sales last month were traditional cars and trucks in February. Ford reported total year-to-date sales through February were 311,325 units, a 6.6% increase compared with the same time period a year earlier.

DETROIT – The United Auto Workers is threatening a labor strike at Ford Motor's largest U.S. plant if local union demands aren't resolved by next week. The Detroit union on Friday said nearly 9,000 UAW autoworkers at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant could strike at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 23 if local contract issues remain. The plant — Ford's largest in terms of employment and revenue — produces Ford Super Duty pickups as well as the Ford Expedition and the Lincoln Navigator SUVs. Local contracts differ from the national agreements that the union ratified late last year with Ford, General Motors and Chrysler parent Stellantis . DETROIT – Ford Motor's third-quarter U.S. new vehicle sales increased 7.7% compared with a year earlier, led by higher sales of traditional pickup trucks across its lineup. The Detroit automaker on Wednesday reported a 15.3% increase in truck sales compared with a 5.1% decline in cars and sales of SUVs that were essentially flat. The automaker's sales of electric vehicles were up by 14.8% during the quarter to nearly 21,000 units. But few of them besides Tesla's Model Y and Model 3 are selling at high enough volumes to support a full-scale assembly plant, according to a Reuters analysis of U.S. EV sales data for the first six months of 2023. But that market share was divided up among 103 different models, according to the Alliance's latest quarterly report on the EV market. The U.S. automaker, like several rivals, has committed billions to build additonal EV and battery plants in the U.S. In a media presentation on Tuesday, Cox Automotive noted that Tesla has surrendered some share of U.S. EV sales this year as more entrants hit the market, but still commands nearly two-thirds of all EV sales. It will be home to Ford's second-generation electric truck, code named Project T3, and will be capable of producing 500,000 EV trucks a year at full production. Ford Motor's new plant being constructed outside Memphis, Tennessee, will be capable of building 500,000 electric vehicles annually at full production, the company said Friday. "Project T3 is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to revolutionize America's truck," Ford CEO Jim Farley said Friday in a release. Ford and South Korea-based battery supplier SK On are investing $5.6 billion in the BlueOval City campus, including a large battery-cell plant.

Senator Marco Rubio on Thursday introduced legislation that takes aim at Ford Motor's (F.N) deal to use technology from Chinese battery company CATL (300750.SZ) as part of the automaker's plan to spend $3.5 billion to build a battery plant in Michigan. Rubio, the top Republican on the Intelligence Committee, introduced legislation that would block tax credits for electric vehicle batteries produced using Chinese technology, saying it would "significantly restrict the eligibility of IRA tax credits and prevent Chinese companies from benefiting." Last month, Rubio asked the Biden administration to review Ford's deal to use technology from CATL. Rubio called for an immediate Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) review of the licensing agreement between Ford and CATL. The $430 billion IRA imposes restrictions on battery sourcing and is designed to wean the United States off the Chinese supply chain for electric vehicles (EVs).

DETROIT – Ford Motor's February sales increased by more than 20% from subdued results a year earlier, as the automaker ratchets up production of its F-Series pickups and electric vehicles. Ford's sales were hampered by supply chain problems in February 2022 making for one of its worst months since 2021. Sales of Ford's F-Series pickups increased 22% last month compared to a year earlier, increasing to about 55,000 units, including 3,600 units of its electric F-150 Lightning. So far this year, sales of F-Series pickups are up 15%. Ford's electric vehicle sales continue to increase, up 88% from a year earlier.
